Trinity Alps "Spring Classics"

The Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival celebrated its sixth annual Spring Classics event by welcoming back cellist Charles Akert, a founding member of the festival, for a series of concerts. Joined by pianist Ian Scarfe and bassist Jacob Johnson, Charles performed a program that highlighted the low and lower instruments of the string family. Audiences enjoyed music of Bach, Grieg, Bottesini, and Frank Bridge, as well as Maurice Ravel's exotic impressionist suite for piano "Le Tombeau de Couperin".

In keeping with the festival's 2016 theme of exploring works from Beethoven's late period, the concerts concluded with deaf Ludwig's "Cello Sonata in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1". A tightly wound work that seems to explode with drama one moment and float into serene meditation the next, this gave audiences a real inside look into Beethoven's attempts to redefine what "classical" music could do.

These three programs in Hyampom, Weaverville, and Redding earned rave reviews from concert-goers, and also served to help raising funding to support the coming Sixth Annual Summer Chamber Music Festival.

Special thanks to all our sponsors, especially The Cafe at Indian Creek and the Arttus Ranch in Douglas City, Jacob Johnson and Karla Avila in Hyampom, the Trinity Players in Weaverville, the Savory Spoon Pilgrim Congregational Church in Redding, and these special donors:
